Essential Information
Weather
Azerbaijan has a varied climate with hot summers (June-August) and mild winters in Baku, while mountain regions experience cooler temperatures year-round. Spring and fall offer the most pleasant weather for touring, with temperatures ranging from 15-25°C (59-77°F).
Currency
The national currency is the Azerbaijani Manat (AZN). ATMs are widely available in cities but can be limited in rural areas. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and upscale restaurants in Baku but may not be accepted in smaller towns. We recommend carrying some cash for local markets and villages.
Connectivity
Mobile coverage is excellent in Baku and other cities, with 4G widely available. Wi-Fi is common in hotels and cafes in urban areas. In remote mountain villages, connectivity may be limited. Local SIM cards can be purchased at the airport and offer affordable data packages.
Local Customs
Azerbaijan is a secular Muslim country with a blend of Eastern and Western influences. Dress modestly when visiting mosques or rural areas. Azerbaijanis are known for their hospitality—it's customary to remove shoes when entering homes, and refusing food or drink may be considered impolite.
