Climate & Best Time to Visit
Oman is hot and humid in summer (May-Sep). The best time to visit is during the cooler months from October to April, when temperatures are pleasant for exploring (20-30°C). Mountain areas can be cooler.
Currency & Money
The currency is the Omani Rial (OMR). It's a strong currency. ATMs are available in towns. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger shops/restaurants, but cash is needed for souqs and smaller establishments.
Culture & Dress Code
Oman is a conservative Muslim country. Respect local traditions. Dress modestly in public areas – shoulders and knees should be covered for both men and women. Specific dress codes apply for mosque visits (head covering for women). Public displays of affection are frowned upon.
Transportation
Driving is on the right. Roads between main towns are generally excellent. A 4x4 vehicle is necessary for desert travel and accessing some mountain areas/wadis. We typically arrange a private vehicle with an experienced Omani driver-guide for custom tours.
